Briar did not enjoy his 1st birthday cake. He just didn’t get his sweet tooth yet. So when my birthday rolled around 3 week later we thought we would try again. Mimi let him suck the chocolate icing off the candle which he really seemed to enjoy. Now we were getting somewhere. So we stripped him down and sat him in the high chair and let him attempt another go at it. It was funny, it was messy, it was great! My wife, Beth, did try to get some cake into his mouth but he just wasn’t that into the “cake” part of it. He wanted the icing. And boy did he ever! Afterwards we cleaned him all up with one of his favorite pastimes… a bath.

On March 11, Briar turned 1 year old. It is amazing to think how far he has come in just that first year. It seems just like yesterday I was taking Beth to the hospital and now he is on the verge of walking. Like any parent we wanted to celebrate this joyous occasion with family and friends. Thanks to all who came out, it was great to see all of you. But boy did the day go by fast. Playtime in the morning, then lunch, a trip up the stairs for a change of clothes and then he was at the window, waiting for guests to arrive. Everyone else ate, then presents and the birthday cake! The cake was by Cake Creators in Lancaster, PA. And on the cake we had Jack Truck & Dump Truck Dan from Briar’s favorite book series by Jon Scieszka. Oh, but Briar was not a fan of the cake, I don’t think he has gotten his sweet tooth just yet. After cake, Briar enjoyed spending some time with his gal pal, Kara. Kara is about to turn 1 in April. So without further ado…

1 year ago we took our first family photo on St. Patrick’s Day. Briar was only 6 days old. Happy Patty’s Day to all my Irishmen & woman!

Sometimes you just have to post cute photos. It was a nice day outside so we had the front door open to let the light in. Briar was nosey to see what was happening outside.
